CORN


In Chile we can produce corn seeds of very high quality and early until FAO 600 with sowings from September 15th until October 30th.

The detasseling is done in December and harvest begins in early February and continues throughout the summer until the end of March. The multiplication of seeds is carried out by growers chosen by Green Seed, based on their experience, soil type, isolation and availability of water, in order to assure good irrigation.

To minimize and avoid any risk, Green Seed divides seed growth in differents areas in the central Chilean zone:

- Northern Area: Graneros – San Francisco de Mostazal – Rancagua (65 Km. South of Santiago)

- Central Area: San Fernando – Chimbarongo (140 Km. South of Santiago)

- Southern Area: Curico – Talca – San Clemente- Linares-Parral (260 Kms South of Santiago)

The good collaboration of the experimented growers assisted by qualified agronomist engineers and agriculture technicians of the company (see flow chart), with the strict control of the Agriculture Department (S.A.G.) for the certification of seeds, assures to the customer a very high quality and good yields, in general higher than in the Northern Hemisphere.

Once the mechanical harvest is finished with corn pickers (or by hand if necessary), the process of corn husking, sorting on the cob, drying, shelling and bagging are done very rigorously, in the least amount of time.

Green Seed’s plant has six modern sorting tables, which allow us to receive four different varieties of seeds without any risk of mixture, in an independent and simultaneous way.

Two dryers that work totally independent from each other with a total capacity of 40 bins each measuring 72 m3 (20 seed tones), with a control of temperatures by computer, security and alarms, and with a continuous register, they can assure the drying of 1500 to 1800 Has of corn field in less than 45 days, from the beginning of February to the middle of march . Consequently, because they are totally independent, each one with their own reception, they allow to process and to isolate conventional varieties of other transgenic corn (GMO). A modern system of bar code, developed by our company many years ago, allows us, once the basic is received from our customers in our warehouse, we register the variety, lot and quantity, and once identified we continue the process in the field during the vegetation period, until the harvest and the re-exportation of the final product. Also, this innovative system allows our technicians to keep the communication day to day if necessary and automatically to our customers, technical information, precise and complete about the status of their crops. Information that may be accompanied by digital photos. In the same way, plant personnel continuously informs clients of the harvest progress, cob transport, drying progress, shelling, bagging and seed exportation. The contracting and planification with many months in advance, of the land and sea transporters with highly acclaimed companies, and the experience of our logistic specialist, an engineer with ten years experience, guarantees a secure and quick shipment to any place in the world, according to the needs of our customers.
